English Summary

We, the Hamburg Section of the German Red Cross, are a part of a worldwide community of people – the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

It has worldwide membership of more than 125 million people, who help victims of conflicts and disasters and other people in need without distinction, guided only by the extent of their need. There are more than 1400 volunteers and a large number of officials involved in such work for the Red Cross in Hamburg. They ensure effective disaster relief, and look after the old, the sick, the homeless and refugees, to mention just a few examples.

The Hamburg Section of the German Red Cross, as part of a national aid organisation and a leading organisation in independent welfare work, is explicitly committed to the seven Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement: Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary service, Unity and Universality.

These are values which have key importance to Red Cross helpers and staff in Hamburg, in their everyday service for people.  The purpose of our website is to provide you with information about the structure, tradition and activities of the German Red Cross in Hamburg.
